Human Capital Agenda

What is the goal of the project?

The Human Capital Agenda project focuses on preparing the labor market for the transition to a sustainable aviation sector by ensuring a sufficient supply of well-trained professionals with expertise in technology, sustainability, and innovation. The sector is already facing a shortage of aircraft technicians, engineers, and researchers, and the introduction of new aircraft and technologies will only increase this challenge. Therefore, attracting new talent and retraining current employees is crucial to accelerating the transition in aviation.

How did the idea originate?

Educational institutions, aviation companies, and industry experts recognize that the transition to a sustainable aviation sector will face delays without an adequately trained workforce. In addition to the technological innovations within Aviation in Transition, the Human Capital Agenda was developed to research the students and employees of the future. This research enables the development of new strategies for attracting and retaining the necessary talent.

How does your project contribute to sustainable aviation?

Annual labor market research identifies missing knowledge and skills, as well as the number of employees needed to support the transition in aviation. Recommendations from these studies are used to collaborate with the education sector and industry to enrich training programs with sustainable technologies, ensuring they align with the needs of the current and future labor market. Additionally, efforts focus on retaining existing personnel and attracting new talent through various campaigns that highlight the appeal of aviation technology education and working towards sustainable aviation.

What have you achieved so far?

  • The first labor market study, Trends in Sustainable Aviation, is nearing completion.
  • The vocational training program Aircraft Manufacturing Technician has been upgraded from level 2 to level 3.
  • A continuous learning pathway for Sustainable Aviation within aviation technology education is under development.

What are the next steps for your project?

  • Sharing knowledge with the sector and educational institutions through dissemination events.
  • Activities and campaigns to attract and retain both current and new talent in the aviation sector.
  • Enhancing aviation technology education with sustainable technologies.
