Michel Peters appointed new Chair of the Board of Stichting Luchtvaart in Transitie

As of 1 February 2026, Michel Peters has succeeded Aad Veenman as Chair of the Board of Stichting Luchtvaart in Transitie (LiT).

From the very beginning, Aad has been a key driving force behind LiT. During the early phase of the programme, he also took on the role of interim Director of the LiT Programme Office for a period of six months, after which he was appointed Chair of the Board. Through his commitment, expertise and experience, Aad has made a significant contribution to the development and positioning of LiT.

Words fall short in expressing our gratitude for the conviction and dedication with which Aad has served LiT over the past years. His lasting impact on the aviation sector is undeniable and aligns seamlessly with an impressive career at the intersection of sustainability, mobility and technology. Among other roles, he has been involved in regional transport and the introduction of the OV-chipkaart, served as President and CEO of Netherlands Railways, and acted as Figurehead of the Top Sector Logistics. Within aviation, he chaired the Advisory Board of NLR for many years and currently serves as Chair of the Board of Lucht- en Ruimtevaart Nederland (LRN).

Thank you, Aad, for your unwavering dedication to LiT and to the sector.

At the same time, we warmly welcome Michel Peters as the new Chair of the Board. Until 1 June 2025, Michel served as Chief Executive Officer of Royal NLR – Netherlands Aerospace Centre, the leading Dutch knowledge institute for aerospace research and innovation with a strong international profile. Michel firmly believes in collaboration, a conviction reflected in the various roles he has held throughout his career. He is currently a member of the Supervisory Board of Rotterdam The Hague Innovation Airport (RHIA) and the Advisory Board of the Royal Netherlands Aeronautical Association (KNVvL).

Until 1 June, Michel was already a member of the LiT Board in his capacity as CEO of NLR. That position has since been taken over by Tineke van Veen. With his appointment as Chair, Michel now returns to the Board in a new role.

Aerospace is the common thread throughout Michel Peters’ career. Prior to his appointment as CEO, he held several senior positions at NLR, including Head of the Aerospace Systems & Applications Division and the Air Transport Division. Before joining NLR, he held various roles at Martinair (part of KLM), where he was responsible for aircraft maintenance. The foundation of his career was laid at Delft University of Technology, where he obtained his MSc in 1987, specialising in Avionics Engineering.

“I look forward to contributing to the continued innovation of the Dutch aviation sector and to strengthening its connection with European developments.” – Michel Peters
